Stadium Progress Update 🏀

Since our first update on the new indoor sports stadium project, significant progress has been made.

Working with our Project Manager, Jenarc, we completed the builder selection process. Following the tender process, Hines Construction was appointed. Hines has extensive experience building sports halls and basketball courts and submitted the best-value proposal (see their website: Design, Management & Construction - Hines Constructions, Bathurst & Central West NSW).

Between signing the grant funding agreement and going to tender, construction costs rose significantly. In response, we carried out a value management review with the Project Manager, designer and builder to identify how the project could be delivered within the available budget. As part of this process, locally nominated contractors were also invited to tender for work.

As a result, the project now includes several hold points, where decisions on the scope of works will depend on available funding.

We have continued seeking support to close the gap between the revised tender price and the funds currently available.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has agreed to make a funding contribution, and we sincerely thank Council for supporting this important community project.

We have also applied for additional funding through the NSW Government Community Participation Grants program.

Queanbeyan Basketball continues to benefit from strong community support. We are pleased to announce that local company Dale & Hitchcock has agreed to carry out the demolition and civil works as a community contribution. This is a substantial contribution, and we greatly appreciate it.

Site preparation is expected to begin shortly, with demolition and civil works to follow soon after. Construction is scheduled for completion in March 2027.

We are working with the builder to maintain normal access to the stadium for our social and representative teams wherever possible. Even so, there will be periods of disruption and inconvenience, and we thank you for your patience and support.

We extend our sincere thanks to Steve Whan MP, Member for Monaro, for his strong support and for securing funding for the project. We also thank Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, Mayor Kenrick Winchester and Council staff, and Basketball NSW for their support and initial funding contribution for the project manager and architects. A special thank you to Rob Hitchcock of Dale & Hitchcock for his generous sponsorship.
